Brus.
Günter Brus, born in 1938 in Ardning, lives and works in Vienna and Graz.
Günter Brus is among the most radical representatives of Viennese Actionism. In the 1960s, he turned the body into the focus of his artistic exploration, unsettling the public in the process. Brus’s provocative and corporeal performances often confronted taboos, identity, and the relationship between the body and art.
“The art of printmaking oscillates between gentle caresses and sadistic attacks. What makes it fascinating is the difference between development and production. In truth, it is a technique that compels the artist to spontaneous honesty since nothing can be erased. As the Austrian saying goes: what lies, sticks! The art world has always consisted of intellect and manual labor intertwined. I will continue to engage with the phenomenon of printmaking. In this sense, I consider myself a resistance fighter.”
