Exaggerated figures with a haunting gaze dominate the pictorial cosmos of Stylianos Schicho. In figurative scenes on paper and large-scale canvases, perspective and proportion seem strangely altered. Schicho’s figures are reminiscent of the visual language of graphic novels. Perspective foreshortening or disproportionate enlargements occur, while strong charcoal strokes draw a persistent boundary around the protagonists. The artist addresses our multimedia communication society, above all surveillance. Inevitably, the recipients turn into mediums of a surreal transaction.
