Maruša Sagadin *1978 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Lives and works in Vienna.

Sagadin is a contemporary artist with a background as diverse as it is expansive, encompassing both competitive sports and academic pursuits. She excelled as a skier in former Yugoslavia and later as a basketball player in Austria, competing in the Austrian Women’s League and representing the national team. After concluding her athletic career, Sagadin ventured into academia, studying architecture at the Technische Universität Graz, followed by performative art and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

Sagadin’s artistic practice is heavily influenced by her architectural background, shaping her unique approach to sculpture. Exploring the social dynamics inherent in architecture and its mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion, she delves into the intersection of gender norms and structural characteristics in her work. This thematic exploration is evident in her selection of compositions and materials, including spruce wood, styrofoam, and concrete. Sagadin employs a multidisciplinary approach to consistently challenge the boundaries of artistic expression, broadening the scope of her practice.
