Revealing things by concealing them is the appeal of Drago Persic’s hyper-realistic work. His paintings, somewhat reminiscent of stock photos, address the relationship between people and clothing, body and garment and show ambivalences within Western society. Craftsmanship expressed in precisely captured lighting conditions and a sophisticated play with sharpness are just as characteristic of the artist as the preferred use of the black and white color palette. The central question in Drago Persic’s work is that of the painting’s autonomy in conflict with the limitations of the Tromp l’œil.
